student loan relief for librarians
RE: STUDENT LOAN RELIEF FOR LIBRARIANS AND OTHERS IN PUBLIC SERVICE
The debt relief provisions of the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, PL110-84, HR2669, become effective in July 2008.
The law contains provisions that “Provide LOAN FORGIVENESS for first responders, law enforcement officers, fire fighters, nurses, public defenders, prosecutors, early childhood educators, LIBRARIANS, and others”. (emphasis added) www.nasfaa.org/publications/2007/CCRASum
The contents of the law may be of assistance to librarians of all types. It includes forgiveness for those in “national need” employment and a long-term program for forgiveness of the balance of a consolidated loan after 10 years. An analysis can be found at www.nasfaa.org/publications/2007/lnpubli
A summary of the provisions of the legislation can be reviewed at http://www.edfund.org/pdfs/CCRAA_Overvi
