one of the things that really bothers me about my rental home is the lawn. Pretty Green Lawn Grass is NOT native to Florida - so I have to spend all this money on the watering and up-keep of said lawn.
One day I will have my own home and I will not have to put up with this bizarre cultural neccesity of the big green lawn. I really like what my mom did with the house I grew up in - she did away with the front lawn area in favor of an "English Garden" approach where you just plant all sorts of flowers and shrubs and just let 'em have at it. It looks like something out of a Monet painting.
Not to say when I was a kid I didn't LOVE running around and playing on the lawn - but if i had MY way - i'd convert all the non-native grasses in the front of my house to native plants, flowers, and shrubs. Maybe toss in a sculpture or a bird bath. Keep the lawn in the back (it seems to do ok with minimal interaction) but segment areas for veggie/herb garden.
is it just me... or does viewing pictures of mars make you want a chocolate truffle as well?

*by AWESOME sandwich, I mean a sandwich made of AWESOME, not awesome as an adj. describing the sandwich - for one of those, see Craigwich in the AthanataLexicon.
